This week’s Student Spotlight is over the caring and capable Dekayla Craigg!
Dekayla Craigg is a senior in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Design, Technology, and Stage Management program with an emphasis in Stage Management and a Spanish minor. Her credits include Assistant Stage Manager for Hand To God with Tabula Rasa; Stage Manager for Secretaries with Spectra Theatre Co.; and Assistant Stage Manager for CATS, Properties Designer for Argonautika, and Stage Manager for A Chorus Line (spring 2022) with the Department of Theatre and Dance’s Mainstage series. When asked about Dekayla’s work ethic and abilities, her peers had only the most positive things to say about her. One peer stated, “Dekayla is a DREAM to work with! Never before has a show I’ve worked on went as smoothly as it did when Dekayla was managing it. If every Stage Manager I worked with was as thoughtful and diligent as Dekayla, the theatre world would be a much better place.” Another shared that, “She always brings creative ideas to the table, and you can see how much she cares about every single project in all of her work.” I think it’s safe to say that there are few people in this department who cleary have as driven and dedicated a work ethic as her.
Outside of school, her friends shared that she is just as exciting and amiable a person as she is to work with. One friend shared, “Dekayla is very fun to talk to! She’s incredibly smart, creative, and has had many fascinating life experiences! I love hanging out with her in the scene shop and in class; it’s always a good day when I get to see her!” Another stated, “My favorite memory of Dekayla involved experimenting with puppets during Argonautika. Talking to Dekayla is endlessly inspiring. She pushes me to be my best self, and I am forever grateful to her for it.”
The department is truly lucky to have someone as kind, creative, and passionate as her.
Congratulations, Dekayla, on all of your personal and academic success!
You have been this week’s Student Spotlight.
“Dekayla is a fantastic mentor and collaborator. I encourage anyone interested in stage management and/or how it works to seek her out and listen to her advice.”
