A Bear-y Warm Welcome

August 25, 2022 by Lauren Hulsebus

Welcome Back, Bears!

Welcome back to campus, T&D Bears! It’s the first week of classes here at MSU, and we hope you all are beyond excited for the upcoming season. Along with student organizations such as Laboratory Theatre Company and Tabula Rasa, we have a great lineup of productions taking place this semester. Keep reading for more information on our shows coming up this fall.

Men On Boats

In 1869, geologist and Civil War veteran John Wesley Powell leads an expedition to chart the Green and Colorado Rivers. Setting out with nine fellow explorers and four wooden rowboats, Powell chronicles the 930-mile journey from the wilds of Wyoming through the Grand Canyon. Inspired by his actual travel logs, Men On Boats imagines the wonder and hardships of the journey, and the courage and foolhardiness of this intrepid “band of brothers” — with an ingenious, contemporary, gender-bending twist!

Men on Boats will take place in the Craig Hall Balcony Theatre, running October 6th-8th and 10th-11th at 7:30pm, as well as October 9th at 2:30pm.

The Last Days of Judas IscariotThe Last Days of Judas Iscariot

The notorious Judas Iscariot is one of Christendom’s most reviled figures. Although accounts of his life and motivations vary, tradition holds that Judas betrayed Jesus to the religious and civil authorities of the day. Then, consumed with remorse, he hung himself from an olive tree. But why did Judas betray his teacher, and what should be his ultimate fate? Set in a courtroom in Purgatory, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is a thought-provoking dark comedy on the universal themes of justice, free will, forgiveness and faith!

The Last Days of Judas Iscariot will take place in the Craig Hall Balcony Theatre, running October 27th-28th and November 4th at 7:30pm, as well as November 6th at 2:30pm.

DreamlandDreamland

As the fabled Area 51 top-secret military base is scheduled to be declassified, a group of high school honor students is given two days’ free rein to explore the site, rumored to have been involved in everything from experimental aircraft to space alien autopsies!  Are the conspiracy theories true?  A zany mash-up of sci-fi fantasy with B-movie-style production, Dreamland blends an ebullient pop score with lyrics by Broadway veteran and MSU Theatre & Dance alumnus Nathan Tysen!

Dreamland will take place in Craig Hall Coger Theatre, November 17th-19th at 7:30pm, as well as November 20th at 2:30pm.

The hard work and talent of all student and faculty here at MSU is what makes the T&D Department thrive. We can’t wait to see all the hard work put into bringing these shows to the stage!
