Waiting for Lefty

Waiting for Lefty is a series of varied episodes that blend into a powerful mosaic of the American working class. We begin in a hiring hall where a union leader (obviously in the pay of the bosses) is trying to convince a committee of workers (who are waiting for their leader, Lefty, to arrive) not to strike. Through flashback and vignette, we then visit a discouraged taxi driver in confrontation with his wife, who wants him to show some backbone and stand up to his employer; an employee promised a major promotion in exchange for spying on a fellow worker; a young cabbie and his would-be-bride who lack the wherewithal to get married; and a senior doctor charged with dismissing a bright, promising intern. 

In Vain

A gothic horror infused with pop music, In Vain tells the story of Vivian Wilde, the daughter of a Hollywood star who keeps her sequestered at home without mirrors or cameras. When Mommy Dearest dies suddenly Vivian finally meets the public, and a famed photographer takes her picture. Vivian makes a fateful wish to remain as young and beautiful as she is at that moment. Vivian discovers that her wish for eternal youth has come true; her picture ages, while she looks better than ever. Free from the impacts of a high-risk lifestyle, for twenty years Vivian tailspins from fame to infamy and even turns to murder to protect her secret. Blaming her demise on the picture, Vivian destroys it. She’s found dead and shriveled up, looking many times her age. The picture remains just as perfect as when it was first captured. 

Sweat

Filled with warm humor and tremendous heart, SWEAT tells the story of a group of friends who have spent their lives sharing drinks, secrets, and laughs while working together on the factory floor. But when layoffs and picket lines begin to chip away at their trust, the friends find themselves pitted against each other in a heart-wrenching fight to stay afloat.

To participate in Unified auditions, make sure to submit an audition form by November 27th. Information regarding callbacks will be emailed out December 2nd.
