The National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Cancer Institute recently awarded four Missouri State University faculty a renewed grant of $328,187 for their anti-cancer RNA conjugates research. The funding was provided to:
- Dr. Robert Delong, associate professor of biomedical sciences
- Dr. Richard Garrad, professor of biomedical sciences
- Dr. Kartik Ghosh, professor of physics, astronomy and materials science
- Dr. Adam Wanekaya, associate professor of chemistry
In the first three years of the grant, many biomedical students successfully enrolled in elite graduate and medical schools following graduation from Missouri State, and many more submitted research to leading publications like Biomaterials and Nanomedicine.
“The grant has had a tremendous impact,” said DeLong. “We are excited that it has now been renewed for another three years (2013-16). Especially with funding of science nationwide at an all-time low (less than 5 percent), the renewal of this grant is a highly impactful accomplishment and represents the National Cancer Institutes along with its expert panel of grant reviewers, great confidence in the bionanoscience we are exploring together and its potential against cancer.”
This research is supported by the National Cancer Institute of the NIH under Award Number R15CA139390. It is the sole responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the NIH.
