Muwwakkil and Zaragoza write, “Transfer students bring a wealth of skills to campuses. Ignoring the structural and cultural barriers to transfer students’ inclusion in governance creates an equity issue, as transfer students are more likely to be people of color, veterans and parents; we are more likely to hold jobs. When the structure and culture of student governance meaningfully include transfer students, our higher education systems will transform as well.”
Supporting Transfer Student Success: Five Key Faculty Practices
This guide presents five research-informed practices designed to help faculty reflect on and reframe the ways they think about, teach, advise, and mentor transfer students. Each section offers a brief introduction grounded in the research and practice literature on transfer, a series of suggested actions faculty can take, and questions to prompt personal reflection or guide conversations with colleagues.
