Student Celebrations for National Transfer Student Week

National Transfer Student Week will be October 19 – 23, 2026. Please join us in celebrating YOU – our transfer students!

 

We will have three events for transfer students. Please read further to learn more about each event.

 

Monday, October 19: “Donut” Forget It’s Transfer Student Week

We will be handing out free donuts from HyVee, beginning at 7:30AM and going until we run out of donuts! This is a come and go event, so please stop by the second floor of the PSU (by the piano) to grab a donut!

 

Wednesday, October 21: P.A.W.S. (Pet Away Worry & Stress)

We will have therapy dogs (courtesy of Pet Therapy of the Ozarks) and stress-relieving crafts (courtesy of Student Wellness and the Counseling Center) in Magers 100 from 2:30PM – 3:30PM! This is a come and go event, so stop by to pet a dog (or two), make a craft, and learn more about what resources Student Wellness and the Counseling Center can provide for you!

 

Thursday, October 22: Men’s Soccer Transfer Student Night

Most of our men’s soccer team are transfer students, so please join your fellow transfer students, as well as Bearpawcalypse (our official student section), in cheering on the men’s soccer team! The game will begin at 7:30PM in the Allison South Stadium.

 

We would love to see you at any (or all!) of these events during National Transfer Student Week. Every event you attend provides an additional entry into our drawing for a Bookstore gift card! The winner will be notified via email on October 23.

“A Conversation with our Community College Colleagues”

As part of National Transfer Student Week, join us for a virtual advisor forum featuring representatives from two-year institutions in Missouri. Through a facilitated discussion, panelists will share their perspectives on academic advising, the student experience, common transfer questions and students’ transition from a two-year to a four-year institution. We’ll also explore how receiving institutions can better support advisors and their students throughout the transfer process. This conversation is an opportunity to share ideas, strengthen our partnerships and work together to create a more seamless transfer experience for students. Registration is encouraged.

The Transfer Advising Committee has representation from each academic college and works collaboratively to develop best practices for transfer advising, facilitate communication regarding transfer student issues, and offer professional development for transfer advisors. While there will be several events open to all students, there will also be an event for faculty and staff who work with transfer students. On Wednesday, October 21, the Academic Advising and Transfer Center will be hosting a transfer-themed advisor forum.

In addition to the events above, the Office of Admissions is offering prospective transfer students the opportunity to apply for admission to Missouri State for free during National Transfer Student Week (October 19-23). Students who are interested in receiving the code for the application fee waiver can email Admissions@MissouriState.edu or watch the @MoStateTransfer Instagram, where the fee waiver code will be shared on October 16. This opportunity is only available October 19-23.

If you are interested in supporting National Transfer Student Week celebrations, we encourage you to:

  • Share information on the week’s celebrations with the transfer students you work with
  • Follow along with posts on the Mo State Transfer Instagram account to show support to the students, faculty, and staff we will feature throughout the week
  • Make a social media post supporting transfer students on October 19
  • Attend the advisor forum on October 21, or stop by any of our events to get to know our transfer students

Please make plans to attend academic advisor forums in the Fall 2026 semester. All sessions count toward the three hours needed for annual renewal of Master Advisor designation. All faculty and staff are welcome, so please encourage colleagues to participate. Registration is strongly encouraged.

2026-2027 New Transfer Student Guide

The Academic Advising and Transfer Center is excited to introduce the first edition of the New Transfer Student Guide! Our 2026-2027 New Transfer Student Guide provides information on everything you need to know before classes begin, including orientation, registration, transfer credits, advising, financial aid, housing, campus resources, and ways to get involved. This guide is an optional resource for our new transfer students, meant to supplement the information they receive in their admitted student checklist and online orientation experience.

Celebrating Spring 2026 Transfer Student Graduates

Missouri State University will be awarding 2,625 degrees later this week, during our Spring Commencement ceremony. The Academic Advising and Transfer Center would like to recognize eight transfer students who will be graduating on Friday. These eight students were previously featured as student spotlights during National Transfer Student Week celebrations. We invite you to learn more about each of these students and their journey from Missouri State transfer student to Missouri State graduate.

Maddy Fisher

Maddy Fisher will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Dance and an Individualized Major of Digital Media and Publicity. Maddy transferred to Missouri State in Fall 2022 from the University of Northern Iowa. Maddy’s advice to transfer students would be to, “Get involved! Everyone says this, but getting involved on campus is the best thing you can do. You don’t have to join every organization, but even studying in the library or taking workout classes at Foster Rec can make campus more enjoyable.”

Devynn LeJeune

Devynn LeJeune will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in English with a minor in Creative Writing. Devynn transferred to Missouri State in Fall 2023 from St. Louis Community College. Devynn’s advise to transfer students would be to put yourself out there. Devynn says, “I stepped out of my comfort zone to join student organizations and introduce myself to others. It can be intimidating, but doing those things has allowed me to meet people and take part in opportunities that have allowed me to have an enjoyable first few weeks.”

Mal Grant

Mal Grant will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Management and Leadership with a minor in Advertising and Promotion. Mal transferred to Missouri State in Fall 2024 from Ozarks Tech. Mal’s advise to transfer students would be to know that “you are going to be okay. Transferring schools is scary no matter where you are transferring from. I was someone who was very anxious and nervous about transferring. I remember being so scared that I was going to look like an outcast and what people were going to think or say about me. I think transferring is one of those things where it sounds scary, and it might feel scary at first, but you end up feeling fine and liking it!”

Olivia Marchizza

Olivia Marchizza will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with an undergraduate certificate in Foundations of Nutrition. Olivia transferred to Missouri State in Fall 2024 from Lincoln Land Community College. Olivia’s advise to transfer students would be to, “pay close attention to how your credits transfer and apply to your major to ensure you get the most out of the education you’ve already earned.”

Faith Collins

Faith Collins will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Professional Writing with a minor in Ozarks Studies and undergraduate certificates in Workplace Writing, Advocacy Writing, and Science Writing. Faith transferred to Missouri State in Fall 2024 from Missouri State University – West Plains. Faith’s advise to transfer students would be, “When you transfer, you start from scratch again. And that can be hard. It really takes a year to get a feel for how any university works and what’s available. Because a transfer student has less time at a university, you really need to be more proactive about finding community and finding out about pertinent services. I would recommend talking to someone, like your advisor, and finding ways to get involved early on.”

Mackenzie Cowap

Mackenzie Cowap will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Mackenzie transferred to Missouri State in Fall 2024 from Saint Charles Community College. Mackenzie’s advise to transfer students would be to, “Keep pushing. Stay motivated and keep going!”

Ashley Nass

Ashley Nass will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education, Special Education. Ashley transferred to Missouri State in Spring 2024 from Ozarks Tech. Ashley’s advise to transfer students would be “it may seem intimidating – even a little daunting – but it will be the best decision and worth the work!”

Courtney Stirewalt

Courtney Stirewalt will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice, with a minor in Psychology and undergraduate certificates in Criminal Investigation, Criminal Courts, and Forensic Child Psychology. Courtney transferred to Missouri State in Spring 2024 from Ozarks Tech. Courtney’s advise to transfer students would be to, “Get organized! Getting organized is my number one priority academically. Also, find a program that you can get nerdy about. Being nerdy and interested in the topics you’re studying will help – if I didn’t absolutely love the topics I’m studying, I wouldn’t be able to take on the readings and academic rigor of the program I’m in.”
