Art students will have the opportunity to participate in several unique workshops and lectures this month, including an award-winning New York artist who incorporates sculpture, design, painting and photography into her work, one of the Mexico’s most recognized artisan-sculptors, and Carlow University’s art department chair who is an internationally renowned potter.
Liz Lomax
Oct. 2-3
Lomax is widely recognized as one of the leading figures in illustration with a client list that includes DC Comics, Entertainment Weekly, Miramax and Rolling Stone. Her unique, hand-sculpted illustration style — which grew from a love of creating shoebox dioramas as a child — is a breath of fresh air in this age of computer-generated imagery.

Rodo Padilla
Oct. 8-9
Padilla is one of the Mexico’s most recognized artisan-sculptors working in stoneware, high-temperature ceramics. After earning a degree in industrial engineering, Padilla pursued ceramic studies in Japan, Italy and Argentina. In 1992 he began to exhibit in solo exhibitions and that same year he was awarded first place for sculpture in the National Ceramic Awards. Among other awards recognizing his work he again won the first place for sculpture in the 2000 National Ceramic Awards.
