Per course instructor Jacob Burmood will lead a team in this year’s Sculpture Games Oct. 2-9.

Three teams from Missouri State’s art and design department will compete in ideaXfactory’s Sculpture X Games happening this week in Springfield.

Teams to build outdoor sculptures

The teams, led by Assistant Professor Kevin Hughes and per-course faculty members Jacob Burmood and Mark LaMair, are among 10 teams that have been preparing for the last month to build outdoor sculptures using found objects.

The sculptures will be judged on the morning of Oct. 9, and the winning sculptures will be exhibited at ideaXfest later that day.

Burmood, whose sculpture was featured on the library lawn earlier this semester, will also put on an aluminum casting demonstration using a portable foundry during the festival.

More about the festival

The art and design department is co-sponsoring the festival, which will feature four musicians and a ceramic artist from our sister city Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico, including Rodo Padilla, one of the Mexico’s most recognized artisan-sculptors in high-temperature ceramics.

In addition to ideaXfest, Padilla will visit campus for a lecture at 2 p.m. Oct. 8 in Brick City’s room 312.
