Brick City Gallery to feature work of award-winning printmaking artist

Brick City Gallery’s spring 2016 opening exhibit will feature art by Russian artist Victoria Goro-Rapoport. Her fantastical works will be on display from Jan. 25 to Feb. 20, with a First Friday Art Walk reception on Feb. 5.

Victoria Goro-Rapoport “Inhabiting Mystery”

Jan. 25-Feb. 20
First Friday Art Walk Reception: Feb. 5, 5:30 p.m.

Born in Moscow, Russia, Victoria Goro-Rapoport graduated from Moscow Art College with a BFA in set design in 1985, working as a set designer with various puppet and drama theaters. She later turned to printmaking, and etching is now her current primary means of artistic expression. The artist utilizes her own dark fantasies, sometimes called surrealistic or apocalyptic images with astonishing detail and technique.

Searching for the Seventies: The DOCUMERICA Photography Project from the Smithsonian Museum

March 4 – April 19
First Friday Art Walk Reception: March 4, 4:30 p.m.

In 1971, the newly established U.S. Environmental Protection Agency launched the DOCUMERICA Photography Project with the goal of documenting environmental troubles and triumphs across the country. These photographs from several artists capture the essence of the music, culture and environment. They will be shown in tandem with the Public Affairs Conference.

March 21 – April 19
First Friday Art Walk Reception: April 1, 5:30 p.m.

Street artist Axel Void continues his long-time creative involvement with everyday people in his Brick City exhibition and workshop. As a painter, installation artist and muralist from Miami, South America and Berlin, he is a socially critical storyteller whose work bares personal and historical narratives. He engages with specific locations in communally relevant ways, with his commissioned murals in major cities across the world.

MSU Department of Art + Design Senior BFA Studio Art Exhibition

April 27 – May 10
First Friday Art Walk Reception: May 6, 5:30 p.m.

The Department of Art + Design will display the artwork of students completing the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio art.

Brick City Gallery hours

Monday – Friday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturday: Noon – 5 p.m.
First Friday Art Walk: 5:30-10 p.m.
Closed Sundays and University holidays
