Annual Foundations Exhibition Spring 2023

January 29, 2023 by Taylor Ladd

A strong foundation is important for many things, and creative work is no exception. Each year, the Annual Foundations Exhibition demonstrates the formative artwork completed by students in the Art + Design Department’s foundations courses. The exhibition is on view in Brick City Gallery January 27 – February 10 and will be open for First Friday Art Walk February 3 from 6-9 p.m.

A shelf hung on the wall includes 6 different forms created in 3D design class. Most are carved plaster forms, one is carved wood, and one is a bent wire shape. All forms are meant to describe and explore space.

The exhibition features student work from all art foundation courses, including 2D Design (ART 100), 3D Design (ART 101), Drawing 1 (ART 115), and Introduction to New Media (ART 110). These introductory studio classes are required for all studio art, design, and art education majors, as well as art minors, studying in the Art + Design Department. “These works focus on formal studies of the elements and principles of art and design while also giving students a wide variety of media to learn,” Megan Frauenhoffer, Art + Design Foundations Coordinator, explains.

Instructors select standout works from each of their classes to be featured. The following students have artwork in this year’s exhibition:

Abby Taylor, Abi Inskeep, Abrielle James, Adrian Pham, Alexa Pfeiffer, Alison Yunger, Alyssa Cartier, Amy Dowell, Anna Hanson, Anna Spalding, Anson Aldridge, Baylie Beckman, Bianca Guzman, Brooklyn Engel, Cali Adkins, Carlea Rittenberg, Charles Carter, Chloe Sisk, Clare Weaver, Cooper Alonso-Yague, Duy Nguyen, Ellie Mallett, Gavin Ichrist, Grace Otto, Ha Anh Cao, Hannah Lipchik, Jaden Lohmeyer, John Toelke, Jojo LaBrier, Judson Beam, Laci Kollath, London Richards, Madison Brown, Maggie Lacey, Matthew C Boxerman, Maya Cohen, Michelle Palumbo Lins, Morgan Allen, Morgan Newman, Niki Taylor, Noelle Wood, Prince-Less, Rachel Mueller, Redeemer Heath, Reece Ripley, Rhianna Sweeney, Riley Newell, Rocky Havens, Ryan Vegiard, Shelby Kindhart, Shelby McDonald, Stephanie Bouvier, Stephanie Snelson, Tyler Cully, and Vaeya Nichols.
