An exhibition celebrating Professor Emerita Judith Fowler’s work in painting fills both sides of Brick City Gallery this summer. The exhibition is on view June 21–August 5 and will be open for two First Friday Art Walks on July 1 and August 5 from 6–8 PM.

Judith’s egg tempera paintings are found in Brick City Gallery East.

The two-part exhibit is the first in a series of exhibitions highlighting the works of faculty emeriti of the Department of Art + Design. This installment includes a survey of Judith Fowler’s work from throughout her career, along with a look at some of her most recent artistic explorations. In the east side of Brick City Gallery, Explorations in Egg Tempera & Silverpoint Drawing is Judith’s take on traditional techniques, both with rich histories in art of the medieval and renaissance time periods, to create intricate works that invite viewers to look closely and carefully. In the west gallery, Judith’s decades-long career as an artist and art educator is showcased with A Retrospective: Drawings and Prints from the Fowler Archives.

At Missouri State, Judith taught classes in painting, drawing and art education for over 15 years and served as coordinator of the Art Education Department. She was granted emeritus status by Missouri State in 2014 after 45 years of teaching in higher education.

Brick City Gallery is located at  215 W. Mill Street, Springfield, MO 65806. The gallery’s summer hours are Monday–Friday 8 AM–5 PM. Call 417-837-2330 for door access and additional details.
