In honor of Gabe Gore’s support of Missouri State and exceptional contributions through public service, the university will award him the 2023 Government Excellence Award.  

As voted by the Board of Governors, Gore will receive the award at the fall 2023 commencement ceremony on Dec. 15. 

About Gore

Gore has a long history of government service. He’s served as the assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, assistant special counsel for the John C. Danforth Office of Special Counsel and was a member of the Ferguson Commission.  

Gore also had a successful 23-year career in private practice. As a partner at Dowd Bennett LLP, he tried numerous jury trials to verdict, including cases involving breach of contract, securities fraud, employment and property damage claims.

On May 30, he was sworn in as the city of St. Louis circuit attorney. During his first months in office, he addressed the most critical issues facing the Circuit Attorney’s Office, including staffing, training and the backlog of pending cases.

Along with earning a bachelor’s degree in political science from Missouri State in 1991, he served on the Board of Governors from Dec. 4, 2015- June 11, 2023. During that time, he served as vice chair and chair of the board. 

About the Government Excellence Award

The Government Excellence Award is bestowed to government officials who exemplify leadership, support the university and have outstanding achievements. 

The university president and administrative council recommend award recipients.  Executive committees of the Faculty Senate, Staff Senate and Student Government Association support the nomination prior to going before the Board of Governors for approval.
