Labor Day Weekend has passed and Missouri State is full of students again. Labor Day Weekend typically is when most students go home for the first time since coming to college. It is a nice break for us students from our responsibilities here in Springfield. It is always good for us to go home and catch up with our family and friends and spend some quality time with them.
Now that we have made the trip home, it’s time for the families to make the trip to Springfield! If only I could think of a certain weekend for you all to do that…. Oh wait, I do! FAMILY WEEKEND! From September 28th through September 30th Missouri State is hosting families with different events throughout the weekend. Some of the events including a comedy show performed by Nicole Byer from Netflix’s Nailed It!, a Student Showcase and Dinner, the football game (tickets available thru September 21st, depending on availability) and a Welcome Breakfast hosted by the Career Center! These events require a ticket to get in (which you can still purchase thru September 14th depending on availability), however there are events being held that do not require a ticket! These events include Rock ‘n’ Bowl presented by Student Activities Council, the Dive-In Movie, a presentation about habits of a successful college student presented by the Absent Professor Program and Michael Frizell, and a brunch hosted by Missouri State Dining Services!
For most family members, this will be your first time back on campus since move-in weekend. This time you won’t have to worry about moving your student in, you will get to spend quality time with them and explore what Springfield and Missouri State has to offer. While you have time to explore, here are some recommendations to do!
- Springfield is home to Bass Pro Shops HQ. The store is one of largest in the world and it includes a few museums that are free to explore. It also include the new attraction, Wonders of Wildlife. It includes an aquarium and is the #1 attraction in the world right now! Tickets run at $40 but it is totally worth it!
- If you’re looking for some friendly competition, Fun Acre is a good option! It is an 18 hole mini-golf course (all within an acre) that is super cheap! It is only $2.50 per person and is a great time!
- There are a few good movies in theaters right now and Springfield has one of the best movie theaters around. The Alamo Drafthouse is one of the best experiences in a movie theater I’ve had. They have reclining chairs and servers that come around and serve you! Their menu includes food that relates to certain movies in theaters and have delicious deserts!
Hope you all can make it out to Family Weekend, it will be a blast!
