Students at MSU have access to a variety of free services at the Counseling Center, including workshops, skill-building groups, group therapy, free links to self-help tools and apps, after-hours crisis counseling, as well as individual therapy. To schedule an Initial Consultation with a case manager to discuss concerns and create a personalized care plan, students can call the Counseling Center at 417-836-5116, or stop by the office at Magers 304, to request an appointment.
A limited number of same-day appointments are available to triage walk-in crises with more immediate needs. Referrals to campus and community resources are also available.
At the end of the fall semester, there was a wait-list for individual counseling at the center due to high demand. All students on the wait-list were offered alternative services, such as group therapy or skills group in the meantime. If they accessed alternative services, they were given priority scheduling at the onset of this semester upon returning in January.
Counseling Center services start over every semester. If your student was on the wait-list last semester, and is still interested in counseling center services, please encourage them to call and schedule an appointment.
Students can also sign up for a free account through Welltrack Boost and/or Togetherall using their MSU email. These services offer a variety of mental health online tools and supports. Links to both can be found on the Counseling Center website.
If your student is part of a group on campus that would be interested in a mental health outreach presentation, we are also happy to accommodate these requests and personalize the presentation to specific needs or topics.
