Family Connection

Questions often asked at the Billing Department – Bill and Lucille Magers Family Health and Wellness Center

October 15, 2018 by Priscilla Childress

Q. How much am I going to be charged?  A. We have very low costs for students who have paid their semester health fees:
* Basic 15 minute office visits with our Primary Care Medical Staff are free
* Flu shots are free
* These common lab tests: rapid strep screen, mono, CBC, and urinalysis tests are free

Students will be charged for some items, such as other lab tests, X-rays, prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, appointments with specialists, and longer primary care visits. The fees for services we do charge for are kept at the lowest rates possible.

Q. Do I need medical and pharmacy insurance?  A. Students without pharmacy or medical insurance may be seen. They will be billed directly.
Medical and pharmacy insurance is advisable, for all students.

Students with pharmacy insurance can provide their insurance information to the pharmacy.  We hold contracts with hundreds of pharmacy plans. If the student’s pharmacy insurance works at Magers, then we can inform the student of the amount of the co-pay at the time the prescription is filled.

Students with medical insurance can provide their insurance information to the clinic business office. The policyholder’s name and address will be needed, as well as the insurance card.
We will courtesy file all medical claims but we cannot guarantee the medical insurance company will pay, as we are not able to be in contract with most commercial medical insurances.

Q. Do I have to pay for my charges at the time of visit? A. Students may defer their Medical and Pharmacy charges to their student account.

Q. Can the student’s parent call the billing office and give them their credit card information over the phone?  A. It is against University policy to take credit card information over the phone.

Q. Can I use our Health Savings Card to pay for charges? A. Most of the time the card is accepted. The card must be presented each time and cannot be kept on file.

Q. Whom should I contact if I have additional questions?  A. The Business Office personnel will be happy to assist you, 417-836-4010.
