I was standing in line today at Starbucks, chatting with the wonderful barista and she mentioned there are only 4 Mondays left in the semester. How can this be? Wasn’t yesterday the first day of classes in January? Time flies when you are having fun, and this has been a fun semester. But the fun is not over yet. There is a lot packed into these next five weeks (counting this week)! There is also a lot of studying, and some stressful moments for our students. Whether they are finishing their first year as a college student or finishing college and heading to the next chapter, it’s exciting, scary, fun, awe-inspiring and significant. Of course, you might be reading this as the family of a member of the Class of 2023 that will start college in a few months. You also have graduation to look forward to, your SOAR session, Move-in Weekend and so much more.
I wanted to share a few things that are coming up in the next few weeks and months:
Now through May 24th, 12pm – 8pm, Meyer Library – Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit “Roots of Wisdom”
Now through May 22nd, 9am – 9pm, Meyer Library – Telling a People’s Story: African American Children’s Illustrated Literature Exhibit
April 9th, 7-9pm, Plaster Student Union – Student Activities Council presents Alumni Comedy Night.
April 10, 10am -2pm – Fountain Day – We all look forward to the day that the MSU Fountain in front of the Library is turned back on in the Spring. Traditions Council plans a whole day of activities to celebrate! There is food, t-shirts, activities, inflatables, an opportunity to take home some of the sacred fountain water and a performance by our Chorale. It’s a great day.
April 10, 2-5pm, Foster Rec Center – The Annual Eggstravaganza! Bring a friend, find an egg and win a prize!
April 10, 3:30-4:30pm, PSU Ballroom East – Mo State Midpoint – A time to celebrate the end of your second year at Missouri State and help our campus community by doing a service project for the Bear Pantry, our on-campus food pantry for our students with food insecurity.
April 11, 9pm-12am, Plaster Student Union North Mall – Mo State Fair 2019 hosted by the Traditions Council, Student Activities Council and the Residence Hall Association.
Now through the first of May – Registration for Fall classes for our current students. Encourage your student to meet with their advisor and get registered for their classes. They can find out info on their specific time to register in their my.missouristate.edu account.
April 16, 5-6pm, Craig Hall 316 – MSU-I’m First Linkedin Workshop
April 18-April 20 – Spring Holiday – Classes out April 18-19th and offices close on April 18th. Classes resume on April 21st.
April 28 – 3:30-5:30pm, Juanita K. Hammons Hall – President’s Concert
May 8, All Day, Plaster Student Union North Mall – SAC Presents: May Day – This is tradition that is held the last Wednesday of classes each Spring. There are games, food, rides, inflatables, arts and crafts, music and much more.
May 9 – Last Day of Classes for the Spring Semester
May 10 – Study Day
May 11 – May 16 – Finals
May 13, 9pm – 11pm, Blair-Shannon Dining Center – President’s Breakfast
May 17 – Spring Commencement – Check the Missouri State website for the times each college will graduate.
