Hello everyone, and welcome to Round 2 of Tristin’s Travels. Just a reminder, my name is Tristin Cathcart, and I am one of the Orientation Assistants for the SOAR program this year! Today on our journey I am going to be talking about one of the best places on campus (in my personal opinion), the Meyer Library!
There is an abundance of resources within the library here at Missouri State. One of my personal favorite resources is the Bear CLAW, which is our tutoring center, or our Center for Learning and Writing (hence the abbreviation). This is a wonderful spot on campus to go if you ever need any type of tutoring help, whether it’s writing an essay or working on some math problems for a homework assignment.
The tutors within this center are all students currently attending MSU, and they have passed their classes in their respective subjects with an A. Go online to set up an appointment or walk right in, but be aware that there may not always be a tutor around if you do not set up an appointment beforehand!
Another big part of the library is the study rooms and Testing Center. There are study rooms on each floor, which can hold larger groups of people if needed for anything like a group project or a meeting. These can be reserved on the Library’s website and all you have to do is check in at the front desk and walk to the room you reserved.
As for the Testing Center, this is typically utilized when a student is taking an online class that requires in-person testing. Your professor will communicate with you what they’re expectations are for testing, but typically you will schedule a time with the center to come in and take your exam. This way they can verify that no academic dishonesty is occurring, while also providing you a quiet space to take an exam.
Lastly, one of the biggest aspects of the library is the computer lab. This lab is completely paid for by student fees, and is where your $60 of printing funds can be used. There are many different desktops to do work on, as well as multiple printers and copy machines if you need to have physical copies of papers, essays, etc.!
Overall, Duane G. Meyer Library is one of the best and most used resources here at MSU. If you haven’t visited the library yet, please make sure to stop by and check out all of the wonderful resources within the building. And don’t forget to visit Boris the Therapy Cat during Finals Week!
