Every October, Cybersecurity Awareness Month raises awareness about the importance of cybersecurity across the nation. The theme – Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart – encourages individuals and organizations to do their part by taking proactive steps to enhance cybersecurity.

Over the last year, serious threats like email phishing and ransomware become even more dangerous, making it essential that we all do our part to protect people and data from cyber threats.

There are some things you can do to #BeCyberSmart, and keep yourself and the university community safe and secure:

• Report Phishing and Email Scams – If you suspect an email is deceptive, you can easily report it by clicking the “Report Message” button in your Outlook toolbar. If you are not using Outlook, or have a question about whether an email is legitimate, you can always forward it to InformationSecurity@missouristate.edu.
• Think Before You Click – Clicking on links in emails and even websites can be dangerous. Before you click, pause to think about it. It’s a good idea to hold your mouse over a link to see where it will take you.
• Take Information Security Awareness Training – Missouri State faculty and staff can access our Information Security Awareness training through My Learning Connection. You can also access the training through the Information Security Office website.
