Dr. Janice Greene, director of the Bull Shoals Field Station and professor of biology at Missouri State University, was awarded $20,000 from Greene County and the City of Springfield to continue Project WET (Water Education for Teachers). The project is an environmental education program with water as the central theme, which provides workshops statewide for teachers and other environmental educators who work with children and students.
“Project WET is fortunate to have the support and cooperation of Missouri State University, the City of Springfield, Greene County and the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks to provide teachers and educators quality professional development,” said Erica Cox, aquatic education specialist at the Bull Shoals Field Station and state coordinator for Missouri Project WET. “I look forward to continue working with area students, teachers and schools in educating about storm water and water issues in our area.”
In Project WET workshops, participants experience activities they might use with students and receive an activity guide with more than 90 activities for their use. The goal of the program is to facilitate and promote awareness, appreciation, knowledge and stewardship of water resources by providing classroom-ready teaching aids and sponsored programs.
