Professors from the department of geography, geology and planning at Missouri State University presented at the 2013 Geological Society of America (GSA) Annual Meeting in Denver, Colo. Topics included geophysics, volcanology, mineralogy and geochemistry.
Drs. Kevin Mickus, Robert Pavlowsky, Kevin Evans, Doug Gouzie, Melida Gutierrez and visiting assistant professor Gary Michelfelder presented at the meeting. The research of Mickus was highlighted, including his recent trip to Antarctica to study the volcano Mount Erebus.
Recently, Dr. Jim Miller, emeritus professor of geology at Missouri State, was selected as the 2013 recipient of the Gilbert Harris Award by the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI), and he received the award at the meeting in Denver. Since 1993, PRI has presented the Gilbert Harris Award annually to an individual who has demonstrated a career commitment to execellence in systematic paleontology.
