It’s always a little bit scary to decide what you want to do after high school. Will I like this field? Do I have what it takes to be successful in this field?
Learning about the degree
Hospitality leadership is working to alleviate those fears with an up-close view of their program during the Junior Hospitality Leadership Day. This day allows high school juniors and seniors to take a campus tour, sit in a hospitality class, attend a student panel, and hear from several people in the college and in the industry.
This year’s hospitality day was held Oct. 10. Students from the area and other partnering dual credit schools participated. Teachers from each school were encouraged to choose two students who could benefit from this day.
Engaging with students
Teachers and students alike were impressed by the event, staying engaged and learning about their possible future degree.
Katie Tucker, Hospitality Leadership Academy coordinator, said the most memorable part of the day was the student panel.
“Having the hospitality leadership students share their experience with the high school students is so impactful and meaningful. I feel they relate to one another,” Tucker said.
