Alanna Bree at Bears of Distinction

Finding your calling overseas

One alumna went across the world to realize where she was needed the most.

February 9, 2018 by Tori York

Sometimes we are called to make a difference locally; sometimes we are called abroad.

Dr. Alanna Flath Bree, Missouri State University biology and chemistry alumna, felt her impact wasn’t enough in the United States. She worked at a clinic as a pediatric dermatologist until she wondered how she could better use her talent.

She decided to try mission work in Kenya and Tanzania.

There she found her passion: helping children with skin diseases and birthmarks, especially albinism.

This mission work led her to open A Children’s House for Pediatric Dermatology.  After the initial calling eight years ago, she recently published a book on her adventures.

“A Children’s House: A Little Story about a God-Sized Dream” hit the stands Jan. 23.

Bree was also recognized as one of the Bears of Distinction. She received the Excellence in Public Affairs award from Missouri State in June.

Congratulations on being published Dr. Bree!
