Looking at pain and how to alleviate it

One MSU professor looks into natural remedies and physical effects of trauma.

April 6, 2018 by Tori York

Dr. Paul Durham is looking for ways to ease your pain.

In two recent Missouri State Journal segments, Durham, distinguished professor of biology and director of the Center for Biomedical and Life Sciences (CBLS) and program alumna, looks at pain and how it affects us.

Childhood trauma and pain

Children with trauma have painful memories. But did you know it’s more than mental? Trauma affects the body physically, and Durham is looking to see just how far that trauma goes.

One thing Durham is looking into is how trauma is biologically passed through families. He also researches how continual trauma affects children.

For migraines

In this Missouri State Journal segment, Durham looks at migraines and orofacial pain. He and Lauren Cornelison, senior research scientist at CBLS, look at preventative measures and natural remedies.

These remedies include bone broth, a vagus nerve simulator and cannabidiol.
