Recognizing amazing women is only one of the things we do at Missouri State University.
This year, the Womxn of Distinction awards made a return.
Carmen Creswell, a computer science major, received honorable mention.
Interim computer science department head Dr. Jorge Rebaza nominated her for this award.
“It felt great to be nominated and to know that people appreciate the work that I do to support women in computer science,” Creswell said.
One of the reasons Creswell was nominated was for her work furthering women in STEM fields.
“I think that these awards are important because they let people know that the work that they are doing is valid and useful,” Creswell said. “Working to help minorities can sometimes be largely ignored, so it means a lot when others take notice.”
Creswell missed the Womxn of Distinction ceremony. She was volunteering as a judge for the Ozarks Science and Engineering Fair. Women in Technology, a club Creswell helped create, encouraged members to help with the fair.
Congratulations, Carmen!
