Student groups donated more than 126 pounds of food.

February 27, 2019 by Tori York

The CNAS Student Leaders Committee decided that they wanted to leave a bigger mark on the college they love so dear.

“We felt that as a college, we could do more for the Springfield community,” said Husref Rizvanovic, a senior microbiology and biotechnology major.

Over a semester, all clubs on the committee worked to donate food. Whoever donated the most won.

Pre-Med Society donated the most, with Tri-Beta right behind them.

Overall, more than 126 pounds of non-perishable food was donated, as well as about $50 in cleaning supplies.

The donations were given to the Springfield Discovery Center and Ozarks Food Harvest.

“This event serves as a reminder to the importance of giving back to the community around us,” Rizvanovic said. “If Missouri State’s public affairs mission has taught us anything, it is the importance of giving back and staying engaged with our community. As we grow, so should those around us.”
