More than 100 elementary students came to Missouri State University Jan. 26 to learn more about science.
Springfield Public Schools (SPS) and the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CNAS) paired together to bring six SPS elementary schools to campus.
They participated in five events:
- Egg drop
- Paper airplane
- Write it/Do it
- Water filtration
- Food solutions
The top five teams were awarded in each event.
Each student was given an Elementary Olympiad dog tag to take home.
The Power of One
The Power of One is an SPS initiative that recognizes the difference one person could make.
Dr. Tamera Jahnke, dean of CNAS, and Ann Wallenmeyer, science coordinator at SPS, were both given a The Power of One pin.
Each were recognized for their part in starting the first Elementary Olympiad at Missouri State.
The event is here to stay.
“The event was such a success that we are planning for next year – bigger and better,” Jahnke said.
