For his dedication and contributions to the field of civil engineering education, Missouri State University’s Dr. Sanjay Tewari has been honored with a prestigious award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
An associate teaching professor in the cooperative engineering program, Tewari joined Missouri State in fall 2018. He has been promoting civil engineering education through his work with both Missouri State and Missouri S&T. With a civil engineering background, Tewari has made substantial contributions to enhancing the cooperative engineering program.
Tewari’s journey into academia began with a doctoral degree from Texas A&M University, followed by tenure as an assistant professor at Louisiana Tech University. His current role at Missouri State reflects his commitment to fostering student excellence and engagement in civil engineering.
Award highlights
The ASCE Region 7 award, which encompasses seven states including Missouri, recognizes a faculty member for his/her outstanding impact on students and civil engineering.
Tewari received the award for his efforts in mentoring students, guiding them through academic and professional development, and actively participating in ASCE’s initiatives at various levels, including national and international engagements.
“This recognition isn’t just for me, but for all the students who contribute to our work,” Tewari said. “They’re the driving force behind the research and successes we achieve.”
The award was formally presented to Tewari on September 12 at the Cooperative Engineering Program.
Showcasing success
“Professor Tewari’s commitment to involving students in meaningful research and his contributions to civil engineering education make this award well deserved,” said Dr. Tammy Jahnke, dean of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences (CNAS).
Tewari’s work and the impact of his mentorship will be showcased during the CNAS Undergraduate Research Symposium in April next year. He and his students will present their ongoing projects and accomplishments.
