COAL students, faculty use MSU Crowdfunding to support projects

The Missouri State University Foundation is helping MSU students, faculty and staff raise money and support for various projects through its new initiative, MSU Crowdfunding. The College of Arts and Letters is leading the way with four projects across various disciplines, including dance, band, opera and media, journalism and film. As of Dec. 4, here are the details of each of those projects.

danceLet’s Dance! MSU Dance Program Travels to ACDA

The dance program is seeking donations to send 10 students and two faculty members to the American College Dance Association (ACDA) 2015 regional conference at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. The donations would pay for registration, fees, transportation and lodging costs.

Goal: $5,000

Amount raised: 16%

Time left: 8 days

greene-countyShort Film: Greene County

Media, journalism and film faculty and students are seeking funds to complete their film, “Greene County.” In this dramatic short, a widow must fight to protect her farm in a turbulent, post-apocalyptic near future. The project, led by instructor Andrew Twibell, gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience that can be put toward a resume. Donations will be used for production and exhibition costs, as well as set catering, props, costumes, equipment and festival entry fees.

Goal: $3,000

Amount raised: 50%

Time left: 15 days

operaMSU Opera’s National Scene Competition Project

MSU’s opera students have been invited to compete in the undergraduate scenes program at the National Opera Association’s 2015 convention in Greensboro, North Carolina. MSU students, directed by Ann Marie Wilcox-Daehn, will have the opportunity to meet producers, directors and leaders in the opera industry, and will perform for adjudicators, learn from the many industry focus sessions and attend master classes. Funds are needed for the flight and four-night stay for the Jan. 8-11, 2015, trip.

Goal: $6,000

Amount raised: 1%

Time left: 27 days

color-guardMissouri State Winter Guards Spring 2015 Season

Missouri State’s PRIDE Color Guard is looking for donations to support its Spring 2015 season as it branches off into two winter guard groups. Both groups perform at competitions around the country through Winter Guard International, achieving 16 finalist appearances at its world championships over the last 20 years. Donations would fund registration fees and traveling expenses for the various competitions scheduled next semester.

Goal: $8,000

Amount raised: 5%

Time left: 31 days
