Steph Anderson, print and internet journalism senior, has been selected to receive a Mark of Excellence award from the Society of Professional Journalist.
Anderson was named a finalist in three categories:
- General News Photography – Battle of the Bartenders
- Photo Illustration – Swimmer heads to Olympic Trials
- Sports Photography – This is supposed to be an exhibition!
“Photojournalism allows me to learn about other people while being creative. As a former student-athlete, competition and sports have always been a part of my DNA. Sports photography is my forte, and my love for competition drives me to make better frames than the last. With that being said, my biggest inspiration are all my mentors who I have met throughout my career and have pushed me to constantly see the world in a fresh way,” Anderson commented.
Anderson currently serves as the photo editor of The Standard. Upon graduation she plans to intern with the Kalamazoo Gazette as a photojournalist.
The staff of The Standard was also named a finalist, for the second consecutive year, in the best-all-around non-daily student newspaper category. The SPJ Region 7 Contest covers Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. The actual place awards will be announced during the regional conference April 26-28.
