Megan Johnson, a Missouri State graduate student, has been awarded a top honor for her art featured in the MOAK 4-State Regional Art Exhibition. Her charcoal drawing of a women’s hair in a bun, “Sinker,” received a $500 cash award.
Johnson graduated in May with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and is now a student in the Masters of Art in Teaching program.
MOAK is the area’s premier exhibit for regional artists. The exhibition is intended to recognize and encourage artists working in all media who reside in the four-state region of Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas. The exhibition features 52 paintings and prints, as well as 79 other works including 13 photographs, six ceramic works, three mixed media, two sculptures, two fiber/textile pieces and a single piece of jewelry.
The exhibition is available now through Jan. 13 at the Springfield Art Museum located at 1111 East Brookside Drive, Springfield, MO 65807. Museum hours are 9 a.m-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday; 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday; 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
