Dr. Grant Peters, professor of music, has been re-elected for a four-year term on the Board of Directors of the International Trumpet Guild.
During his first term serving on the Board, Peters was named host of the ITG’s 2011 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition, held on the Missouri State campus on September 24, 2011. The successful bid included a $50,000 grant from the Herb Alpert Foundation, and brought five of the most outstanding young jazz trumpeters from around the world to Springfield to compete for a $10,000 first prize.
The International Trumpet Guild is a non-profit organization founded in 1975 to promote communication among trumpet players around the world and to improve the artistic level of performance, teaching, and literature associated with the trumpet. ITG’s more than 5,000 members represent 56 countries and include professional and amateur performers, teachers, students, manufacturers, publishers, and others interested in belonging to an organization dedicated to the trumpet profession.
