Rediscover ‘Sweeney Todd’

November 8, 2012 by

Venture, rediscover, explore, and be transported by the theatre and dance department’s ongoing Fantastic Journey, with a presentation of “Sweeney Todd!”

Based on a Victorian “penny dreadful” pulp fiction serial, Sweeney Todd combines chills, suspense and dark humor with a powerful musical score. The story is set in London, where unsuspecting customers of the “demon barber of Fleet Street” get more than a close shave, and patrons of Mrs. Lovett’s downstairs bakehouse get a mysterious new ingredient in the shop’s popular meat pies! By turns shocking and hilarious, this macabre musical masterpiece shows that “revenge is a dish best served cold!”

Book by Hugh Wheeler; Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; Based on an adaptation by Christopher Bond; Directed by Michael Casey. Sponsored by KTXR.
