Brook Linder, a major in electronic arts and video studies, produced a short video to promote the Missouri Mission of Mercy (MOMoM) free dental care event at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds on Sept. 23-24, 2011. During the event, 178 dentists and a total of over 1,100 volunteers treated 1,856 underserved area adults and children. It is estimated that over $1 million worth of dental care was administered.
Linder learned of the project through Mark Biggs, department head of media, journalism and film, and completed the project as an independent study under his supervision. After shooting footage at the event, he spent two weeks editing and then made changes based on feedback from the agency. Linder says that the project took about a month.
“The scope of what MOMoM was doing was pretty amazing,” Linder says. “Hundreds of men and women, from trained dentists to untrained volunteers, donated hours of time and effort towards one simple cause – making the lives of the less fortunate a little better.”
Linder’s senior thesis project, Ghoul School, premiered in May as part of the electronic arts student showcase.
