Drops and withdrawals can be processed online at My Missouri State. If you have a hold on your account preventing the use of the web registration system to drop a class, contact the Office of the Registrar prior to midnight on the deadline day. The first installment of the “My Payment Plan” for Spring 2016 housing and required student fees is due today. If paying in person, payment must be received in Bursar’s Office by 4:00 p.m. Payments submitted via the web must be completed by 4:00 p.m. also to be processed in time.

LOGOS: Call for Submissions
LOGOS: A Journal of Undergraduate Research will accept submissions from all fields until 11:59 pm on February 15. To be eligible for publication, a submission must have been made for an undergraduate course at Missouri State University or an affiliated campus.
LOGOS is dedicated to publishing outstanding work by undergraduates in every
academic discipline, including original research, essays, creative writing, and artwork. Led by Missouri State’s Faculty Advisory Board and Honors College student editors, LOGOS conforms to the highest standards of scholastic integrity in a blind peer-review process.

Flu Shots at Taylor Health and Wellness

Reduce the risk of flu illness and ruining your holidays and finals.
Come to Taylor Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:15 pm for your flu shot.
The cost for the seasonal flu vaccine is as follows:
* MSU employees (full and part-time) – No Cost (paid by MSU health insurance plan)
* Household members of employees – No Cost (paid by MSU health insurance plan)
* Retirees – on MSU insurance – No Cost (paid by MSU health insurance plan)
* Retirees on Medicare – No Cost (paid by Medicare) – Check in at the Business Office prior to receiving injection
* Students – No Cost (paid by Student Fees)
* Others – $29.50
* Please note, Taylor Health and Wellness Center does not vaccinate children under 6 years of age. Ages 6-9 years need to bring a copy of their immunization record to determine if the child needs one or two flu vaccines. If you have children less than 6 years of age, please contact their pediatrician for information about the vaccine.
* If you are on Coumadin (warfarin) we must have an INR lab result in the last 3 weeks equal to or less than 3.5.
* Bring your BearPass Card. Dress for easy access to your upper arm.

The Sustainability@MSU newsletter lets students, faculty, staff and community members stay up-to-date on what is happening on campus related to sustainability. The newsletter includes exciting announcements, updates on current programs and upcoming events as well as resources for how to live more sustainability.
Haven
Haven is a required online course for all in-coming freshmen and transfer students to complete to initiate understanding of consent, sexual assault, relationship violence, and bystander intervention. If this course is not completed by the student prior to the student’s spring registration date within the student’s first year at Missouri State University, a Registration Hold will be placed on the student’s account. This hold will be lifted from the account once completion of Haven has occurred.

Exhibition: VICTORIA GORORAPOPORT “INHABITING MYSTERY”

The art of Victoria Goro-Rapoport will be on display at Brick City Gallery Monday January 25-Saturday February 20, 2016.
Brick City Gallery is located at 215 West Mill Street, Springfield. Gallery hours are M-F 11am-6pm, and Saturdays Noon-5pm
Exhibit will be open during Springfield First Friday Art Walk February 5, until 10pm.
Galleries are closed national and university holidays.
Russian born Victoria Goro-Rapoport originally trained as a set designer, working with various puppet and drama theaters before emigrating from Russia in 1990. She discovered etching while living in Israel from 1990-1994. She went on to earn her MFA in set design from the University of Utah in 1998, and her MFA in printmaking from the University of Illinois in 2002. Goro-Rapoport is currently Professor of Drawing and Printmaking at the University of Nebraska, Kearney. Her work explores the precarious connection between human-made spaces and the humans who inhabit

Effect of Retirement on Health Outcomes of Older Americans

The health impacts of retirement for older Americans using panel data (1992-2010) from the Health and Retirement Study. The results indicate that there are statistically significant negative physical and mental health effects due to complete retirement. However the effect on physical health conditions is larger in magnitude than for mental health.

Qingdao University Chinese Music Ensemble

A combination of teachers and students from Qingdao University will play Chinese music on traditional instruments such as the dizi, erhu, pipa, guzheng and yangqin. The music performed will range from traditional Chinese melodies to more recently-written arrangements. One such arrangement is “Xiao Hong Mao” or “Little Red Hat,” which is the Chinese version of “Little Red Riding Hood.” It has been arranged for Chinese ensemble by Dr. John Prescott, MSU Professor of Composition.

NAREK ARUTYUNIAN, Clarinet
January 26 7:30 – 9:30 PM, Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts
Clarinetist NAREK ARUTYUNIAN is an artist who “reaches passionate depths with seemingly effortless technical prowess and beguiling sensitivity” (The Washington Post). He will perform a program of works for clarinet and piano as part of Hammons Hall’s Don and Betty Wessel Emerging Concert Artists series.
Born in 1992 in Gyumri, Armenia, Mr. Arutyunian’s family moved to Moscow when he was three. By the age of 16, he had already won First Prizes in the International Young Musicians Competition in Prague and the Musical Youth of the Planet Competition in Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory, and now lives in New York City, where he works with Charles Neidich at The Juilliard School.
Winner of the 2010 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Mr. Arutyunian was presented in debut recitals at Merkin Concert Hall and the Kennedy Center to rave reviews. His growing career also includes numerous educational outreach programs in New York City public schools and around the country.

Circles for Girls Facilitator Training

Saturday, January 30th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This free training is for women who wish to learn more about and/or volunteer to co-facilitate Circles for Girls with the Center for Dispute Resolution. Circles for Girls is an 8-10 week structured educational group for girls and young women. It brings together a group of 4-10 girls with trained facilitators to explore topics relating to social, emotional, and physical well-being. Some groups are conducted within area middle schools, while others bring girls together in the evening at the offices of the Center for Dispute Resolution at Missouri State University. The program is designed focus on the development of effective conflict management and communication skills and to help girls realize their strengths, withstand social pressures, and maintain healthy relationships.
