Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period. Check the MSU Master Calendar for campus events celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

Sustainability Workshop

This is a monthly workshop series that will give students the information and the take-home tools to help them adopt sustainable habits.
These free, student-led workshops will show you how easy and practical it is to integrate sustainability into your everyday life. The workshops will include FREE take-home items, activities and discussions.

Set in rural Appalachia in 1937, Ballad Hunter is the tale of three generations of women — Hetty, Gussie and Lotta — subsisting on a remote mountain where mysticism and superstitions run deep. Fifteen years earlier, the appearance of a mysterious stranger—a musicologist seeking to record the region’s traditional ballads—brought irrevocable change to the mountain. For on that day, Lotta was conceived, and a tragic explosion at the local mine killed nearly all of the men. Now an idealistic, young representative from Roosevelt’s Rural Electrification Administration (REA) has arrived to sell the residents on the wonders of electricity. The outsider’s presence eerily echoes the past, and long-buried secrets of the women’s lives are illuminated!

America’s premier comedian, Jerry Seinfeld, returns to the stage at Juanita K. Hammons Hall with his signature stand-up routine. Seinfeld has been hailed for his uncanny ability to joke about the little things in life that relate to audiences everywhere. He now sets his sights on performing both nationally and internationally in 2016.

President Clif Smart and Provost Dr. Frank Einhellig will address the university community.
Psychology Club Presents: Suicide Awareness and Prevention
From 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM, on September 26, 2016 in Hill Hall Room 400
Dr. Patrick Lord from Cox Hospital will be speaking about suicide and the process of getting help.
Afterwards we will have a balloon release honoring victims of suicide and their loved ones.

- From 9:00 PM – 12:00 AM, on September 22, 2016. Join Student Activities Council as we celebrate the season of Fall! There will be plenty of fall foods, inflatables, string lights around the North Mall(PSU), apple bobbing, pumpkin painting, and a DJ. We will have Bungee Run, Medium Obstacle Course, Sumo Suits, and Two Man Joust.

- Join Student Activities Council for free food and bowling! Each Rock N Bowl will have a unique theme for students to enjoy.
- Dodgeball Tournament
- From 9:00 PM – 12:00 AM, on September 29, 2016 at the Foster Rec Center. Teams of 6 students will team up and participate in a Dodgeball Tournament. The winning team will receive gift cards of $25 for each participating member of their team. Since it is a sporting event there will also be Gatorade and water provided for the players.

Resume Madness is held each semester at various locations around campus. Students and alumni are invited to bring a hard copy of their resume to receive a quick review and some tips to promote qualifications, education, work, internship, practicum and volunteer experience on the resume.
Empty Bowls to Benefit Ozarks Food Harvest (9/23)

- The 3rd annual Empty Bowls event is coming up, and students and faculty from the Art & Design Department are donating over 50 ceramic bowls! This is an event where Ozarks Food Harvest partners with Panera Bread to offer a handcrafted bowl, as well as soup and bread, in exchange for cash donations. Last year’s event raised more than $5,000 for the Ozarks Food Harvest.

- We have extended the registration deadline to September 30th. Weightlifting 101 is your best guide to gym confidence and to help you reach your personal best. Join us every Tuesday and Thursday at 3:00 from September 13th – October 30th for a 1 hour course on weightlifting form and technique, proper use of equipment, gym etiquette and injury prevention. The course will also teach you how to create a workout, goal setting and training tips, fuel and hydration basics and proper stretching techniques. You can join us twice a week for the next 6 weeks for only $15!
Horseshoe Canyon Ranch Climb (9/25)
