In the past, Facilities Management has transitioned buildings from cooling to heating mode when outdoor temperatures consistently reach highs of only 54-57 degrees Fahrenheit. We have developed historical temperature data which indicates these temperatures are normally reached in mid-November.
Though the district chilled water system eliminated some of the complexities of switching buildings from cooling to heating, several of our buildings are still only capable of being in either the cooling or heating mode at any one time. Those more complex buildings include the following:
• Carrington Hall
• Cheek Hall
• University Bookstore (Morris Hall)
• University Hall
This E-mail does not apply to facilities within Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services. A separate process is used to determine the timeline for transition from cooling to heating for those buildings. If you have questions regarding the transition from cooling to heating for facilities within Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services you can contact them directly via E-mail at ResidenceLifeFacilities@MissouriState.edu.
Prior to the transition of any building, a message will be posted on the University web site in the Administrative Services Notifications blog. Please subscribe to this blog to ensure you receive notifications. Instructions for subscribing to Administrative Service Notifications can be found at this link. Please keep in mind that during the transition each building may go from cooling, to just forced air ventilation, and finally to heating.
Once we switch from cooling to heating, it is difficult and labor intensive to switch back to cooling if the need arises, that is why we wait for consistently cool outdoor temperatures before making the transition.
We target a mid-November transition; however, the extended weather forecast will be evaluated during the next few weeks. If temperatures are varying from the 5-year trend, the transition from cooling to heating can be accelerated or delayed accordingly.
If the building is in the cooling mode and occupants are consistently too cool, please contact the Work Management Center by phone at 836-8400 or by E-mail at WorkManagement@MissouriState.edu. We log this information and use it to assist us in the decision making with regard to building changeover.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we do our best to serve you.
