Fall FLC Proposals

Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) are faculty-led groups that offer community and professional development through interdepartmental learning and teaching. Each FLC invites interested faculty to explore a stated topic in-depth through discussion and study with a group of like-minded peers, and provides excellent opportunities to expand horizons, develop and improve educational practices, and build connections across departments and areas of study. This spring, our offered FLCs have included topics such as AI in college writing, experiential learning, supporting student mental health and wellbeing, and writing groups and retreats for faculty.

FLCs are conceptualized and led by faculty members, and we want to hear your ideas for new groups. If you have a topic that you think would make a good FLC and are interested in facilitating a group, the FCTL is accepting proposals for Fall FLCs now! If you would like some more information about FLCs in general or would like some inspiration before you create a proposal, you can visit the FLC page on our website. To find more information about what facilitating a group looks like, what should be in a proposal, and where to submit a proposal, visit the link below.

The deadline for proposals for Fall FLCs is March 15, 2025.

What You Might’ve Missed

The semester is in full swing, and with so much work to be done, it’s easy for updates to go unnoticed. To make sure you don’t miss out on anything from us, here’s a quick recap of some exciting posts from the last week.

FLC Spotlight

Dr. Nicole West, Associate Professor and Assistant Director for the School of Special Education, Leadership, and Professional Studies

Our MSU faculty are always impacting our campus community in powerful and exciting ways, but its rare that we get a thorough look into the avenues they do so in.  We had the opportunity to sit down last week with Dr. Nicole West, Associate Professor and Assistant Director for the School of Special Education, Leadership, and Professional Studies, as well as creator and facilitator of the Wednesday Writing Circle FLC, to gain some insight into the impact her group has had on our MSU faculty. The Wednesday Writing Circle meets with the goal of fostering a stronger sense of community and promoting scholarly productivity, and the group has had resounding success in these pursuits since its formation in the fall of 2020. Through conversations with Dr. West and a few group participants, we got to hear about the immense professional, personal, and communal benefits the participants of this FLC have gained through their experiences, as well as how those experiences may continue to affect people outside the group itself.

To read more about the Wednesday Writing Circle, check out our “FLC Spotlight- Wednesday Writing Circle” post through the link below. If you’re interested in learning more about or browsing through some other FLCs, visit the Faculty Learning Communities page or our FLCs category on the blog.
