The deadline for poster proposals for the Spring Scholarship Summit is approaching fast. If you’re considering presenting your project or initiative this year but are hesitant to submit a proposal, take a look at these top three reasons you should present at the Spring Scholarship Summit to learn what you can expect to gain from the experience.
The Spring Scholarship Summit is a poster proposal event held annually by the FCTL to allow faculty members to share their work with the campus community. The 2026 Summit marks the second event of many to come, and the FCTL is looking for presenters to make this year’s event just as exciting and informative as last year’s. If you’re on the fence about presenting, here’s just some of the many reasons you should go for it.
1) You’ll Get to Share What You’re Working On – No Matter What It Is
The Summit is open to all teaching and learning scholarly projects, and encourages faculty to share their current work on any topic in that realm. If you have a project, research, or other initiative related to teaching and learning that just doesn’t seem to tick all the boxes for other conferences you’d like to attend, the Summit is the perfect place to share it. Last year’s Summit boasted presentations on everything from the experiences of teachers working outside their home cultures to utilizing intergenerational communities to combat the loneliness epidemic to experiential learning strategies in the classroom, presented by over 20 faculty members representing a wide variety of disciplines. The FCTL welcomes faculty from every corner of campus to share their passion projects, current research, publications, fellowship initiatives, and more – so no matter what it is you’re working on, we’d love to give you the chance to show it off.
2) You’ll Get to Make Cross-Campus Connections in a Low-Pressure Environment
Faculty members across campus are often engaging in similar teaching practices and lines of inquiry independent of each other, but seldom get the chance to discover common interests or project opportunities amongst those outside of their college or department. Presenting at the Summit is a great way to get connected with faculty members who share your interests who you might not have had the opportunity to talk to elsewhere. Building these connections fosters cross-departmental collaborations down the road, and assists faculty members in their professional as well as their personal development. As a presenter, you’ll get to speak on the teaching and learning topics you’re most excited about, find others who share your interests, and maybe even form some close friendships that will last far into the future.
The Summit is also a relaxed poster presentation event, giving faculty the time and space to chat and indulge in tasty hors d’oeuvres while browsing the projects being shared. If presenting is something that you find anxiety inducing, this low-pressure environment is a great opportunity to share your project without having to deal with the stress or intimidation that comes with most presentation venues.
3) Submitting a Proposal is Quick and Easy
Most presentation events utilize long, cumbersome, and time consuming proposal processes that can be difficult for busy faculty members to find time to complete. The proposal process for the Spring Scholarship Summit, on the other hand, was designed to be as quick and painless for interested faculty members as possible. If you’d like to present a scholarly project at the Summit, all we need from you is a quick, two sentence explanation of who you are and what you’d like to share at the event. Interested faculty can fill out this Microsoft Form in less than ten minutes to be considered for a spot at the Summit… and when it’s that easy, why wouldn’t you submit a proposal?
The deadline for poster proposals for the Summit is March 1, 2026. The FCTL looks forward to seeing what our vibrant campus community has to bring to the Summit this year, and invites you to submit a proposal to be part of the event. Feel free to contact the FCTL via email with any questions you have about the Summit, the proposal process, or any other FCTL events or opportunities. We can’t wait to see you there!
