Cayuga White kicks off grape harvest at the station

August 9, 2016 by Marilyn Odneal

We are harvesting Cayuga White today. The winery plans to make distilled grape spirits from this cultivar as well as Chardonel and Seyval Blanc. We will try to harvest all cultivars today since we have a large crew. After the Chinese interns return home at the end of the week and much of our crew will go back to school, our crew will shrink considerably!

We have a large harvest crew today, so we hope to harvest three different cultivars.

Terry is also happy to participate in the harvest.
Terry is also interested in how his management work this year led to a good harvest.

The lugs weigh about 20 - 25 pounds each. We are careful not to fill them too much since we do not want to crush the grapes just yet.
