Grape harvest begins with Cayuga White

Grape harvest began yesterday with the harvest of Cayuga White. We harvested this cultivar earlier than desired due to fruit cracking from rain and the hazard of bunch rot.

After the nets are lifted off of one side of the row, we begin to harvest.

Grapes are placed gently in the lugs to prevent further cracking.

Hand harvesting allows us to remove rot from the berry cracking.

We harvested about one 25 pound lug per vine.
