🌟 Benefit Spotlight: Critical Illness Insurance

November 19, 2025 by Deidre Mings

✅ No Premium Changes for 2026

Good news — your rates remain consistent for 2026! Plus, your premium is age-locked at the time of enrollment, meaning once you’re enrolled, your rate will not increase just because you age.

🧾 What Is It?

Critical Illness Insurance is a voluntary supplemental policy designed to help ease the financial burden if you or a covered dependent is diagnosed with a covered critical illness. You receive a lump-sum payment directly to you — use it however you like: medical expenses, travel, household bills, or recovery time away from work.

⚙️ How It Works

  • Select Your Coverage – Pick the plan and benefit amount that fits your needs.

  • File a Claim – If you or a covered dependent is diagnosed with a qualifying condition, you file a claim to receive your benefit (see brochure for full conditions/ exclusions).

  • Receive Payment – Funds are paid directly to you and can be used at your discretion.

🔍 Plan Features & Coverage

  • Two optional plans are available for you and your dependents. Children are covered at no additional cost. The plans are age-rated.

  • Wellness Benefit: Both plans offer a $100 annual benefit for completing a covered wellness/preventive screening.

  • Spouse Coverage: Covered spouses receive 50% of the employee benefit amount.

  • Covered Conditions & Benefit Amounts:

    • Plan 1: Up to $10,000 for diagnoses such as heart attack, stroke, major organ transplant, end-stage renal failure, invasive cancer, benign brain tumor, coma, complete blindness, complete loss of hearing, and paralysis. Also includes $2,500 for coronary artery bypass surgery, carcinoma in situ, advanced Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

    • Plan 2: Up to $20,000 for the same major conditions, with $5,000 for coronary artery bypass surgery, carcinoma in situ, advanced Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease
