Multicultural education is vital because it supports the development of children as well as facilitates cooperation among members of our society. Dallas is a culturally diverse city with a vastly growing Hispanic population (approximately 42% and rising). Despite this diversity, children from these varying cultures face many problems due to increasing poverty rates and disparities in access to education. Our trip will be working with two organizations that address this need. Trip members will work with Wesley-Rankin Community Center to provide a three-day, spring break educational program for children in West Dallas. In addition, our trip members will spend a day serving with Vogel Alcove, an organization that invests in youth and families experiencing homelessness. While serving with these organizations and being immersed in Dallas, participants will come to understand the value of cultural diversity and its impacts on children, education, and the community.
