Our last day serving at the Children’s hospital was so rewarding. My group took arts and crafts to the 4 outpatient clinic floors (emphasis in cardiac, neuropsychology, kidney, etc.). We made hippos and turkeys and the kids all did so well. Eventually we split up and took different floors. As soon as that happened it felt like it was nonstop until noon. I had to make three separate trips to the volunteer center to get more crayons, stickers, and coloring puzzles. The kids just lit up when we handed them the goodies. I had several employees thank us for our time, and I could tell it was sincere. One mom teared up when we gave her daughter another craft. She had just about finished her puzzle and was needing something else to preoccupy her before their doctor’s visit. Those moments made all of the long drives, early mornings, and crazy traffic oh so worth it.
