Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium is looking for students to join their guest engagement program. Wonders of Wildlife is a world-class aquarium and the largest conservation attraction in the world.
Guest engagement volunteers are the face of museum and aquarium. They represent not only the organization; they represent the heart and heritage of the Ozarks. As they actively engage visitors in conversation, stories, and learning activities they exemplify the character of community through passion, intelligence, and dedication. Wonders of Wildlife is seeking young adults who have a desire to use energy, knowledge, and talent to entertain, educate, and inform visitors from across the nation. Students in the guest engagement volunteer program will see firsthand how a world-class attraction prepares staff to meet goals and promote brand image. Face-to-face interaction with visitors from all walks of life will provide a deeper understanding of diverse cultures and how to convey messages targeted to their perspective. Communication skills will be enhanced by learning how to adjust their dialog and delivery tactics to meet the needs of their audiences.
Each volunteer is provided with all the information necessary to empower them to be an effective member of the team. Orientation and training covers a vast array of topics including wildlife facts, information on the social and economic aspects of wildlife management and conservation practices, rules and procedures, interpersonal and public speaking, visitor engagement, and guest relations. No prior knowledge of wildlife or conservation is necessary. This opportunity is available to those 18 years of age and older.
Recruitment efforts at this time focus on guest engagement volunteers within the aquarium and wildlife galleries. Currently, internships are offered in the life science and education departments. Wonders of Wildlife’s need for interns in other areas will soon be expanding. In today’s extremely competitive job market, hiring managers are drawn to those who have dedicated themselves to volunteerism and community action, which makes a volunteer program a valuable resource for students.
The Wonders of Wildlife staff is committed to providing visitors with an unforgettable immersive journey through Earth’s amazing ecosystems. Also dedicated to providing a volunteer experience that is personally rewarding and providing skills and memories that will be valued for a lifetime. Wonders of Wildlife would very much like to see Missouri State University well represented when doors open to the world on September 21, 2017!
