The Community Engagement Internship at MSU provides area nonprofits with dedicated, Federal Work Study-funded student interns for one academic year. These paid positions allow students to work 10–12 hours per week while bringing enthusiasm, fresh perspectives, and a genuine desire to develop leadership skills and support the Springfield community.
Program Overview
This is an opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. Students develop essential skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership while exploring career paths in the nonprofit and public service sectors. By working directly with community organizations, participants gain meaningful, hands-on experience that connects their academic learning with real-world impact. At the same time, community partners benefit from the energy, creativity, and commitment that MSU students bring to their organizations.
Program: Community Engagement Internship
Participants will:
- Match with local agencies to work 10-12 hours/week for an academic year
- Earn a paycheck through Federal Work Study funding
- Learn civic responsibility and nonprofit leadership skills
- Broaden their educational experience and awareness of community needs
- Provide valuable services, insights and energy to the Springfield community
- Participate in at least one service project in the community each semester
