Public Relations Specialist, Marketing and Communications
In her native country of Malaysia, Emily began her making a difference in the lives of others while in high school. Moving to Springfield in 2010, she knew there was no better way to learn about her new community than by volunteering. “I enjoy helping out organizations that serve at-risk children and people who are homeless or poverty-stricken,” Emily says.
While working full-time at the Springfield Victory Mission, she got an in-depth look at the pressing issues and needs facing the Springfield community and gained a deeper appreciation of the value that volunteers can have on the area’s social issues. Deeply affected by the high rates of abused and neglected kids in Greene County, Emily and her husband answered the call for help by becoming a licensed foster home. Since 2012, they have hosted 3 placements, the current being a toddler girl. Emily says being a foster parent is definitely tough, but it is also rewarding.
Besides fostering, Emily volunteers in her church’s early childhood programs and participates in MSU’s International Friends program, serving as a friend to international students. For her dedication and devotion to making a difference in the lives of others, we are pleased to honor Emily Yeap as the February Staff Spotlight.
