Campus Safety Alert for an On-campus Disturbance

At approximately 11:00 a.m., an individual was observed outside of JQH Arena, 685 S John Q Hammons Parkway, disrobing and discharging a flare gun. SPD and Campus Safety responded to the area and contacted the individual. The individual refused to answer questions and provided irrational responses about what he was doing on campus.  The individual was identified, arrested by SPD for outstanding warrants, and taken to jail.

Reminders:

  • Be aware of your surroundings and alert to suspicious activity.
  • Immediately report suspicious activity to the Springfield Police Department at 9-1-1.

Campus Safety Alert for an On-campus Disturbance

At approximately 7:30 a.m., an individual entered a MSU employee’s vehicle in Lot 8, 960 E Harrison Ave, and demanded a ride. The employee told the individual that they would not provide a ride and that the individual should exit the vehicle. The individual complied with the request and exited the vehicle. The incident was reported to Campus Safety and the Springfield Police Department. The individual was identified and banned from campus.

  • Always lock your vehicle.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and alert to suspicious activity.
  • Immediately report suspicious activity to the Springfield Police Department at 9-1-1.

Timely warning for an on-campus burglary

The Springfield Police Department is investigating a report of a burglary that occurred on campus. The incident occurred at 11:51 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, at Darr Agricultural Center, 2401 S. Kansas Expressway. An individual entered the property and stole equipment from a storage building.

If you have any information concerning this incident, you are encouraged to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or 9-1-1 for immediate assistance.

Reminder:

  • Do not leave doors unlocked. If you leave your room even for a moment, make sure the door is locked.
  • Report suspicious individuals to the Springfield Police Department at 9-1-1 or to University Safety at 417-836-5509.
  • Do not attempt to confront suspicious persons.

Off campus robbery

On June 11, 2021 at 8:10 a.m., a white male with a mohawk entered the Glo dry cleaner, 530 S. National Ave, and gave a note to the clerk. The note read that the suspect had a gun and demanded money. The clerk did not see a gun and gave the male a small amount of cash. The suspect left and headed north bound on National Ave. Springfield Police officers responded to the area and began looking for the suspect.

Shortly after 9:00 a.m., an MSU substation officer located the suspect north of campus and arrested him

Timely Warning for an on campus rape.

The Springfield Police Department is investigating a report of a rape that occurred on campus. The incident occurred at 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, on lot 40, 213 S. Jefferson. A female was forced into a vehicle parked on lot 40 and sexually assaulted by a male she did not know. Neither individual is affiliated with Missouri State University.

If you have any information concerning this incident, you are encouraged to contact the Springfield Police Department at (417) 864-1810 or 9-1-1 for immediate assistance.

REMINDER:

Sexual assault is never the fault of the victim.  Below are some safety suggestions for all members of our community to consider that could prevent harm:

  • Be active in supporting a safe and respectful community. If you see others engaging in disrespectful or inappropriate actions, speak up and get involved, or contact someone else to assist.

 

  • Trust your instincts and do not ignore signs of trouble. If you feel uneasy or sense something is wrong: leave quickly, ask for help if there is someone nearby, or call 9-1-1.

 

  • If you feel uncomfortable walking on campus, call for a Safewalk. Learn more at: https://www.missouristate.edu/safety/safe-walk.htm.

 

  • Become familiar with the Bear Line Shuttle schedule. You can find more information at: https://www.missouristate.edu/transportation/bearline/.

 

  • Stay with the crowd. Less bad things happen when you are with people you know and trust.

 

  • Watch out for your friends and have them watch out for you.

 

  • Be aware of your surroundings and alert to suspicious activity.
