One of the many things I’m looking forward to eating in both Myanmar and Vietnam is fresh fruit. They both have great climate to produce delicious mouth watering fruit. Hopefully this post will up your knowledge of the different types they have so when we are out and about you will be able to recognize a few.
Durian – aka King of Fruits. You might have heard of its awful smell; however, if you can hold your nose long enough to try a taste of it, I’ve heard it tastes buttery. I’m 80% sure they sell dry durian at the Seoul Market in Springfield. Definitely go check it out, if you can handle a dry non-smelly version, you can handle the real deal.
Mangosteen – aka Queen of Fruits. You peel the soft fleshy skin off and eat the white center. Although it looks very different from the usual fruits in the States, it is very good. The flavor is a sweet like tarty fruit. Don’t eat the peel though, which can be use for medicine purposes.
Rambutan – has a texture similar to lychee, if you have ever tried it before. Rambutan has a sweet flesh, be careful not to eat the seed inside though. It is covered by a soft prickly surface.
Sugar-apple – apparently it has a sweet scent to it and tastes similar to custard (which is probably why the Philippines call it a custard apple). Despite the coloring on the outside, the flesh has a yellowish tint.
Jackfruit – similar size to durian; however, the jackfruit has edible pods which cover its seeds. The texture of the pods are a little more leathery than compared to a typical fruit. When ripe, it is usually sweet.
Can’t wait to have these fruits and more!
