Pham Ngu Lao Street- the street that never gets quiet, is a must for me! I hope after reading this most of you will be wanting to check it out with me. It is located on the western side of District 1 and is THE place for backpacking. Don’t be surprised to see everyone sitting in small plastic chairs. The Street consists of many alleyways that are filled with restaurants, coffee shops, and international bars, and souvenir shops. The area is great for hanging with locals and drinking beer (side note…BEER is cheap, draft is $0.25 and bottle is $0.70). Popular beer in Vietnam is Tiger Beer and Saigon Beer. The restaurants in this area are known for being delicious and well-priced. Local favorites such as banh mi sandwiches (must try), banh xeo (pancakes), pho, bun bo hue (rice noodle soup thicker than pho), and local coffee are available. The nightlife in this area is filled with bars and clubs, bia hoi stalls (beer halls), and street vendors. This area as so much to offer and I definitely feel going here will only enhance our cultural experience.
Here are some pictures of what it looks like:
