This article points out that many tourists find the street vendors over-aggressive. I can relate to that because of my 2013 trip to Europe. While in Europe, I was surprised with the street vendors just casually approaching you, but continuously asking to buy things from them. Growing up in Missouri, it was something I had never experienced. Although the Vietnamese vendors may be more aggressive, I think I am prepared having a bit of experience with their sales tactics.
The term “motorbike taxi” has me excited! This is something I will look more into.
During any of my travels, I’ve never been worried about safety. I think using good judgement and maintaining awareness of your surroundings are the best ways to avoid being scared about safety/being a victim. A few of the people who I have told I am going to Vietnam say, “Oh my! Be careful!” I always reply, “I will, and I’ll make sure to have fun while doing it!”

I think people here in the Midwest are quite sheltered and I was in for quite the surprise when I visited Thailand. Having never been to Vietnam I can only assume its similar. I’ve never been on a motorbike personally and hopefully we will get the chance to experience when we visit.
